Rules & How to play

  • A team for ice skating is made up of 6 rodents, the ice skating competition is one dance. Every team thinks up a dance with the same music. The judges decide on the music 2 months before the competition and the teams must make up a dance within that time. There are 3 judge for the ice skating competition, points are given for artistic moves, creativity, costumes, and fluency. There are solo and group competitions. There are a few rules, the ice skates must be the competition skates. Meaning, the rodents may not use their personal ice skates. The music chosen by the judges, contestants may send in an email song recommendation, but the song is rarely picked. Judges look for:

  • Costume. The judges most often "like" costumes that are one color or a series of colors that go together. Glitter was banned 2000 because it was littering the stage. Also, all ice skates will be white, so make sure that white goes well with your costume.

  • Artistic Moves. Rodents think that most jumps are over the top, a small hop is ok. However, popular moves include, spins, gliding, and quick turns. It is also recommend that teams think up new moves, the Lemmingvill team invented a spin-glide-quick turn-stop move.

  • Creativity. Creativity is a must, try adding an extra twirls or spin in the end. Creativity pares with artistic moves. Judges always recommend having a theme to your dance. Some common themes are winter, night time shadows, and summer days.

  • Fluency. Fluency looks for how well the dancers are in time with the music, if they move in unison, and how confident they look and are. Judges also look for if the team works together.

Every 4 years, there is an annual ice skating competition that decided who will be the next Hamstington International Team.

Interview

Reporter: Mrs. Waters, are you the mother of Cathy Waters?

Mrs. Waters: Yes.

Reporter: have you ever ice skated?

Mrs. Waters: Yes, I was on the school ice skating team. I never thought to play it professionally.

Reporter: Do you support Cathy's choice?

Mrs. Waters: Completely!

Reporter: Who do you think inspired her?

Mrs. Waters: I don't know, I think when she read a book by Victoria J. Lee (now her coach), she started thinking about if she could do that too.

Reporter: How stressed is Cathy? And, what do you think about Victoria?

Mrs. Waters: I think I can answer both questions at once. I think that Victoria pushes her team too hard sometimes, Cathy sometimes gets home and will go straight to bed because of the stress she puts them under. I like Victoria, but I think she needs a good one month long vacation.

Reporter: Thank you for giving us a inside view on ice skating!

Meet the Hamstinton Snow Twirls Team! Hamstington's international Ice Skating Team

Coach: Victoria J. Lee

With full name known as Victoria Janet Lee, is a very strict coach. Her mother came from India and gave Victoria her black fur. Victoria hates unkept fur and often gets in arguments with Lizzy Blacksilk about her fur. Victoria hates nicknames and pushes her team to the next level. When she is in a good mood she can be quite pleasant, but when not she can get very agitated. In her free time Victoria enjoys making jewelry and swimming in the ocean. She does enjoy cooking and often gets together with Jasmine Long-Ear, the Tail Tennis coach.

Lizzy Blacksilk

Lizzy Blacksilk shares an apartment with Simone De Iceflake. Lizzy often has arguments with her coach, Victoria, because of how her hair looks. However, if she goes through it with a brush she looks like a puffed up furball, which is something Victoria hates even more! Lizzy likes to garden, and the apartment balcony is a mess of flowers, veggies, and other plants. Her mother, Seal, is a actress and was often away. So Lizzy was often alone, she would go to the library for hours and read, it was there that she read about ice skating and wanted to try it out. So she signed up for the school team.

Simone De Iceflake

Simone De Iceflake is a Japanese dwarf flying squirrel, she loves to read manga and styling her fur. Simone is a straight A student and is currently taking drawing/animation at the Hamstervill University. Simone loves glitter and shares an apartment with Lizzy Blacksilk, they both decorated the living room with glitter of all colors, and created a universe on the ceiling. Simone likes to bake but loves to draw even more. Simone's grandmother was a titanic survivor and sometimes tells stories of the titanic. Simone created a entire graphic novel of her stories, and is hoping to get it published.

Izabella Zia

Izabella Zia is a skunk, she did have a spraying problem when she was nervous, but was able to over come it with the all new skunk perfume. Izabella also does Track & Field and enjoys running. She also likes botany, history, and painting. She is not a fan of pop music, but prefers older music. Izabella lives in Hamstervill, and is the next door neighbor of Victoria J. Lee, her coach.

Cathy Waters

Cathy Waters is a big fan of Princess Cassy squeak, and looks up to her. Cathy has been ice skating since she was 3, but almost gave up when she was 11 after breaking both front paws. Cathy is not a very chatty rodent, but she isn't shy. She gets along well with all of her team mates, except Laurel Bright-Eye. This is because Laurel once made her trip before her solo, making it so she could not perform. Cathy also likes to roller skate, and is quite good at it. Cathy was also an actress, but quit after she was invited onto a national ice skating team.

Georgia Ginger

Georgia Ginger loves pop music, she always walks around with head phones. She gets along well with her team and invites them over for a disco dance party in her home in New Lemmington. Everyone always comes, except Victoria J. Lee. Georgia's mother loves baking and is good friends with Mrs. Crabapple, so the team can always count on some new baked treats. When Georgia was small she took Roller skating classes, she stopped after she discovered ice skating.

Laurel Bright-Eye

Laurel Bright-Eye does not get along with her team mates, because she tripped Cathy Waters once during her solo competition. Laurel always says it was an accident, which it seems to be when you watch it on the security camera in slow-mo. Laurel is slowly starting to gain back the trust of her team mates. However, their coach, Victoria, told Laurel that if something like that ever accured again, accident or not, she would have to leave the team. Laurel lives next to Simone De Iceflake and Lizzy Blacksilk and the three often have fun midnight parties. Laurel likes to bake lemon meringue pie, which she shares with her team mates.
