Ms. Acorn: Interview

Reporter: How long have you been a secretary?

Ms. Acorn: I think, 25 years.

Reporter: Why did you become a secretary?

Ms. Acorn: I always loved typing, so I thought it might be a good job for me.

Reporter: How did you become the head of the Detective Department’s secretary?

Ms. Acorn: It's the first job I ever got as secretary, and I was never dismissed. So, I stayed with it.

Reporter: As secretary what are your duties?

Ms. Acorn: I’m in charge of writing letters and organizing meetings. I’m also in charge of the coffee machine😁.

Reporter: What is your real/full name?

Ms. Acorn: Alicia Lynn Acorn.

Reporter: As a squirrel, what is your favorite type/mix of nuts?

Ms. Acorn: I like walnuts, but my all time favorite is the fruit & nut mix that the company "Nuts Of Paradise" makes.

Reporter: As a child what job did you want to have when you grew up?

Ms. Acorn: I wanted to be a pilot.

Reporter: Why?

Ms. Acorn: I read the biography of Ratilia FlyHorn. I found it fascinating that it was possible to fly, if you weren’t a flying squirrel and didn’t use “The Flying Squirrel flaps”.

Ms. Acorn: Life Story

Ms. Acorn was born in the countryside. Her family moved to Hamstervill when she was 10, but she didn’t like the city. “There weren’t any mountains, clearings in the forest, or springs of water,” she recalls. "I never planned on staying as an adult." However, then she found out that in the corner of Hamstervill there was a big park, and rodents could rent cabins in the forest part. Over time, Ms. Acorn grew to love the city and has never thought of moving away since.

The Cornflower family is in a panicking mood: the largest raspberry bush they own has been robbed! Cordelia had been planning on entering it in the Lemmington Fruit Fair, says her sister. We try to find information on the robbery from Cordelia’s neighbors.

Reporter: Can you tell me a little about Mrs. Cordelia Cornflower?

Mr. Ground Squirrel: Well, Cordelia has lived here since she was 5; she started growing raspberries as a business 2 years ago. She has never lied, and she was very good in the garden.

Reporter: Can you tell me a little about the robbery?

Ms. Emily Sandpaper: It was evening, and I was coming home. Suddenly, I saw a flashlight bobbing on the street in front of my bicycle. I screeched to a stop; at that moment I saw Cordelia’s raspberries in the other rodent's paw. Then the fleeting moment was over, and Cordelia came out of her house saying she had been robbed.

That’s all for today, stay tuned for more information regarding the raspberry thief. Tomorrow we learn about Detective Gerbilia and her life story!

What happened to the Hedgehog Spring Fair?

Do you remember that the Hedgehog Spring Fair was going to be held in Hamstervill and that some rodents weren’t happy about it? Yes? Have you ever wondered what happened? Even though the Hedgehog Spring Fair was over a month ago, The Daily Squeaker has decided to reveal the mystery over the event.

The Hedgehog Spring Fair was canceled and not held in Hamstervill, because almost all rodents voted for the Fair to be held elsewhere. The Fair was then held in New Lemmington, a very new city (it was built just this year!). Due to the lack of advertising, the fair was very unsuccessful. Most rodents had read that the fair was to be in Hamstervill and that many rodents were not happy with the decision; so they did not come. To make up for the lack of fundraising, the hedgehog population has asked The Daily Squeaker to advertise the Hedgehog Autumn Fair and to send a reporter. We will of course be visiting the Fair and advertising it!

Search Team Sent Out!

The Team that was sent out on June 21, 2020, is being searched for!

In June, a team of Dwarf hamsters set out to follow an ancient map purchased by the explorer, Doctor Hamsti. Now it's August, and neither the first nor the second dwarf hamster team have returned. Our reporter, Emily Carrots, has the full story for you.

Back in June, The Daily Squeaker reported that a group of dwarf hamsters was setting out to Egypt to try and find legendary sphinx gold (for more info click http://legends/sphinx-gold.com). The map was purchased for $8 by Doctor Hamsti; he planned the expedition with his assistant Fuzzball.

This photo was taken on June 21, just before the helicopter took off.

Fuzzball Wiskers (see interview June 19). A group of 7 dwarf hamsters was going to start out by helicopter on June 21, 2020. They would start out and when they found a promising lead they would send a signal to a second group who would bring fresh supplies and water. They would then set out together.

Everything was going according to plan, except that Mr. Fuzzball Wisker got sick and was unable to join the rest of the expedition group. Then things changed! After the second group of dwarf hamsters joined, the hamsters seemed to lose contact with the rodent world, and they weren’t heard of since. A search team will be sent out on August 24, 2020. We hope to keep you informed with new information on what may have happened. We may also do another interview with Mr. Fuzzball Wiskers.

Beaver Building Competition Results!

Over 50 beavers entered the competition, but only the best 3 are in the final round. Check out the best 3, and vote for your favorite!

#3 “The Lodge in Dam form”

The third lodge is shown above. Although it is built in a dam form, the judges think it is the most weatherproof. The owner wishes not to be named, but one of the judges told us that he added very pretty carvings.

* Mrs. Slap-Tail shares the same last name as one of the judges, but they are not related.

#1 The Coco Lodge

The first lodge we present to you was built by Mrs. Slap-Tail*. She named the lodge “The Coco Lodge”, because she was able to soak her tree and branches in a cocoa mix, before construction. You can see the picture below. The judges say that she has a very sturdy roof, that she painted in different colors, so they look like a night sky.

#2

The next lodge was built by Sam Beaver. He is 12 years old and already a lodge builder. His lodge is very sturdy, but lacks delicate details, says Mrs. Strong Paw.

Today our reporter is going to visit Ms. Guinea’s Café: Café Guinea in New Guinea Pig City. We talked to Ms. Guinea on July 6, 2020, when her café had just opened. She will be hosting a sky night event soon, and we hope to talk to her about it as well as how her café is doing😉.

What is Sky Night?

Sky Night is a night where a business (often a café or restaurant) sets up chairs outside at night for a night of star gazing. They often offer food and drink, with a lower cost than usual.

How is Ms. Guinea Planning on doing it?

Ms. Guinea will be setting up chairs on her patio on August 18, 2020, at around 8:30 PM. Rodents can come and help set up, or come a little after 8:30 PM to grab a chair (or bring their own) and go into the café to order food & drink. Café Guinea is also planning on having live music and real star experts to answer questions and give a presentation.

The Daily Squeaker is planning on sending a reporter to the event. See the rest of the August edition of The Daily Squeaker for what rodents are saying about Café Guinea and what Ms. Guinea has to say about her café!

"The Ocean View is most relaxing while drinking Ms. Guinea’s famous rose & lavender tea, Café Guinea is just what New Guinea Pig City Needed."

- Regular Café Guest

Ms. Guinea

Ms. Guinea about her Café

When I started thinking about opening a café, my thoughts kept drifting back to a café in Hamstervill, La Rodentia. I had only been there twice, but both times it had felt like total vacation. I wanted to replicate that feeling. So, I bought a small house on the ocean side of New Guinea Pig City and painted the inside a soft blue pastel shade. I did everything I could to make things seem delicate. I hope rodents are able to relax in Café Guinea.

World Hamster Mall Robbed Case Solved!

Detective Chinchilla declared the case closed on Thursday, August 13, 2020. He had started working on the case over 2 months ago, but he was finally able to bring it to an end. We are unable to get an interview with Detective Chinchilla, but we hope we get all the facts correct.

Detective Chinchilla was told to get back the Green Pearl Necklace, and if possible to find out who the thief was. First of all, the World Hamster Mall location had to close for investigations. All rodents in the area were asked if they had seen something. Detective Chinchilla was not able to get much information, but learned that:

  • The Hamster had white fur

  • The hamster also wore a lavender dress

  • The thief was wearing heavy rose perfume, the company was found to be “Fancy Fur”

In short, the thief(s!) were found to be the Ratilia twins, who had worked with Furball Ratty to steal the Green Pearl necklace. The necklace was recovered from the hideout. In the hideout, Detective Chinchilla found papers leading to where Furball Ratty was hiding. Unfortunately, he thinks the Ratilia twins were able to send Furball Ratty a message telling him to run. The papers that revealed where Furball’s hideout was also confirmed that Detective Smallfur's guess was correct.

What Happened?

The raspberry thief (see August 4, 2020) attacked the Rodenti Mansion in Lemmington, Hamstington. He/she stole a very rare wild flower seed belonging to Mrs. Jane Woodmouse.

This attack

The robbery was done at night, and none of Mrs. Jane Woodmouse’s night guards/cameras show any sign of an attack. This brought her the idea that one of her one guards is responsible.

The Last Attack

The first attack from the raspberry thief was on August 4, 2020, he/she stole Cordelia Cornflowers biggest raspberry bush. They were planning on entering it in the Lemmington Fruit Fair.

What's happening next?

A Hamstervill detective will soon be looking into the case, we will keep you updated to the best of our knowledge…

Leaf Show #1

The annual fall leaf show was held in Lemmington this year

On June 9, 2020, The Daily Squeaker interviewed Valentina who is a niece of one of the Flower Show's judges. She told us that every year in Hamstington there are two flower shows and two leaf shows. We were unfortunately too late to see the first flower show, but we are visiting the first leaf show today; the second one will be held on August 21, 2020. Mrs. Woodmouse reports from the leaf show.

Mrs. Woodmouses Report

The three winning leaf designs were created by Lavender Basil (a house mouse), Lilli Sprout (a guinea pig), and Amanda Hedgehog (a hedgehog). We were unable to get an interview with them, but we hope to get some soon (so check the bonus article page!). Mrs. Sally Woodmouse was able to get an interview with one of the judges!!!😁😁😁

Mrs. Woodmouse: Good Afternoon, what is your name?

Judge: Cordelia Cornmouse.

Mrs. Woodmouse: The Cordelia Cornmouse?

Cordelia: Yes.

Mrs. Woodmouse: How long have you been a leaf show judge?

Cordelia: 25 years.

Mrs. Woodmouse: What do you do when you aren’t a judge?

Cordelia: As you know, I grow raspberries. I sell them at the Hamstervill Weekly Market. I also help out in the village bakery.

Mrs. Woodmouse: Were you a judge at the Flower Show which The Daily Squeaker attended?

Cordelia: No, I am only a judge at Leaf Shows.

Mrs. Woodmouse: Will you be at the second leaf show?

Cordelia: Yes.

Mrs. Woodmouse: Thank you for this very short interview!

Sky Night At Café Guinea!

Ms. Shortfur attended Café Guinea’s Sky Night last night. Here is her report!😁

Ms. Guinea had expertly remodeled her outside patio by the sea. She had set up chairs so they formed a half moon; in front was a little stand where a rodent was selling food and hot drinks. Ms. Guinea was also providing blankets for anyone who felt chilly from the sea air. I was able to get an interview with one of the guests, Murrieta Tulip, a home baker in Hamstervill and one of Ms. Guinea’s most frequent customers.

Ms. Shortfur: What is your favorite thing to bake?

Murrieta Tulip: Lemon Meringue pie.

Ms. Shortfur: Why did you come to Café Guinea's Sky Night?

Murrieta Tulip: I am a big fan of Ms. Guinea's and come to all of her events!

Ms. Shortfur: How did you find out about Café Guinea?

Murrieta Tulip: My friend got hired there, and told me about her.

Ms. Shortfur: How did you like Café Guinea's Sky Night?

Murrieta Tulip: It was wonderful!

Ms. Shortfur: Would you recommend Café Guinea to other rodents?

Murrieta Tulip: Yes!!!

Ms. Shortfur: Why?

Murrieta Tulip: Just because …

Ms. Shortfur: Thank you for this interview, Murrieta Tulip! I hope to see you again some time in Hamstervill ...

The Hedgehog Autumn Fair

The hedgehog autumn fair was held in Gerbil Town, Hamstington. It had the same set up as the spring fair (cross road style). This time, instead of a Maypole, there was a ring of stumps, where rodents could relax, drink hot/cold acorn coffee/tea, and tell stories. We ask a hedgehog at the fair some short questions!

Reporter: What is your name?

Hedgehog: Milly Hedge.

Reporter: Why are you at the fair?

Milly: I’m a hedgehog *duhh*🙄

Reporter: Isn’t today a school day?

Milly: I go to ‘Mrs. Prickles Academy for Hedgehogs’; it's all hedgehogs and a private school. We have vacation today!

Reporter: Mr. Fuzzball, how are you doing?

Mr. Fuzzball: Very well, thank you! In our last interview I told you to call me Fuzz, I still insist that you do.

Reporter: Why did you not join the expedition?

Fuzz: I got a bad case of the flu.

Reporter: Looking back, are you glad you weren’t able to join?

Fuzz: No, Dr. Hamsti is easily distracted, and I think I might have been able to save the team (if that was the case).

Reporter: What are you planning to do next?

Fuzz: I’m not sure, but I didn’t join the search team.

Reporter: Why?

Fuzz: I’m still a professor, you know!
